Hello, I’m August, a current freshman from Chicago studying Economics. At first, I was a little apprehensive about going on tour. After all, I had just begun learning new repertoire for the fall concert, and didn’t know if I would be able to jump in on tour. However, the encouragement of upperclassmen convinced me that this wasn’t something I’d want to miss.
Turns out, they were 100% right. Going on tour helped me become closer to our brothers in song and helped me to learn the ins and outs of our musical program. Touring the Midwest allowed me to see the Gateway Arch, St. Louis Cathedral, UMich Campus, and Downtown Detroit, all places I’d never been, and I could not have spent my break better, building a brotherhood with these dedicated singers. We engaged in many group activities, such as taking a tour of Busch Stadium along with a biking tour around Detroit. However, the hallmark of my tour experience would have to be our performances. Learning all the repertoire for the concerts took grit and challenged me, but the work put into sharing music for thousands across the Midwest made me realize why I am called to the club and the importance of the Glee Club’s work. Come see me and all our other members at our home concert on November 7th at Debartolo Performing Arts Center, 8 PM!
